Vacancy | Deputy spokesperson (Coreper I)

The Permanent Representation of Belgium to the EU is looking for a Deputy Spokesperson responsible for Coreper I dossiers. This role, which goes beyond a traditional 9-to-5 job, includes a broad range of tasks, with a focus on press communication and public diplomacy.

Main tasks

As deputy spokesperson, you are the contact point on the Belgian position on COREPER I dossiers (agriculture and fisheries; competitiveness; education, youth, culture and sport; employment, social policy, public health, consumer affairs; environment and climate; transport, telecommunications and energy) for the national and international media from the group of EU correspondents in Brussels. You are available when it suits the press, with a diplomatic eye for detail. Providing correct information, always keeping the Belgian point of view in mind, is your most important task.

You also provide press assistance during ministerial councils to the various teams from the cabinets of Belgian ministers at all political levels (regional and federal). At certain times you are also prepared to travel to Luxembourg for this purpose.

If necessary, you can easily switch to crisis communication; performing under pressure is not a problem for you.

You are also an important link in terms of communication between the European level and all Belgian political levels (both federal and regional).

Social media hold no secret for you. You expand our strong BelgiumInEU brand on the relevant channels (X, Instagram, LinkedIn, WhatsApp) and are ready to creatively develop campaigns.

You have experience in managing a website & media analysis.

You will also be partly responsible for our public diplomacy. You love organising all kinds of events and accompanying visits at the Permanent Representation.

Finally, you regularly work on our Internal Communication. Basing yourself on our house style, you can design visibility material if necessary. You are extremely interested in developing our internal staff magazine.

Main requirements

  • Master's degree in journalism or a communication-related field AND/OR international relations/political science with at least 2 years' experience in communication.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Dutch, French and English.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Experience in public diplomacy and building relationships with various stakeholders is a plus.

Offer

  • A challenging and versatile position within the largest Belgian diplomatic post in the world.
  • The opportunity to contribute to Belgium's representation in the European Union.
  • A multicultural and multilingual working environment
